Dr Moghayedi introduced the notions of lifecycle assessment and net-zero energy, and gave demonstration of energy modelling tool EDGE. Buildings are increasingly in focus due to the growth of urban populations and enlargement of energy hungry cities. It is important to reduce the embodied and operational energy consumption and carbon footprint of the built environment. He also showed examples of a model zero-energy house built in South Africa and a 3D-printed house.
